Stockholm Rock Out Part 2 – Running Order

2010

Hi everybody!

This is my first blog post so I thought I’d take the opportunity to tell you a little about my involvement with Stockholm Rock Out. My name is Christian Wallin and I’m a graphic artist and illustrator. Sometime late last year Chris got in touch with me about making a logo for a festival he was planning. I was excited to work on the logo although I never anticipated just how big an event the festival would be. We came up with the Rock Out-girl and from there on I’ve been in charge of a lot of the graphics for the festival. I can’t tell you how thrilling it’s been to watch the line-up grow over the last couple of months, adding one fantastic act after another to the posters and flyers. Chris definitely has a knack for booking great bands, and does so at mind-blowing speed. Updating posters is a pretty easy job, but it can be hard keeping up with him :) Less then a month to go the roster now is full, and it includes an amazing number of acts, some of them personal favourites such as Fatal Smile and John Corabi. September 10th and 11th will be a truly unique event!

But for me personally it gets even better. Not only do I get the honour of doing the graphics for this amazing festival. I get to play at it too. My band Killer Clan of F.U.N. will be opening on the Tube stage on the 10th. It will be pretty cool to be the first band out of the gates and get to kick off this big party. We will put on one hell of a show as usual, I can promise you that. Can’t wait to see you all!

Yesterday morning i felt at ease, ticketsales are good, all flights are purchased, Hotels booked etc, you know the feeling when evertyhing is in order (Laundry and Dishes done:)) And then a phonecall from Great White management made me feel more like “Does somebody have something against SRO” :)  A lot of you know we have had some troubles with vulcanos and cancelled artists before, so i thought ive had all surprises already. All our thoughts and prayers for Jack Russell for a quick recovery. But what really made me happy was Great White´s will to work out something good out of this situation, and then i woke up this morning with a phonecall saying we had Paul Shortino confirmed as replacement for the show on September 11 and then to speak to Paul in person was great, so today has been a killer day compared to yesterday evening…I am a big fan of Paul´s previous work, Quiet Riot, Rough Cutt and his solo stuff, so its a great honor to be the first promotor to present Paul Shortino for the first time ever on Swedish ground!

Today its only 23 days left or 1 987 200 seconds ;) We are gettin closer baby! Cant wait, I am really happy about the line up and that we have a lot of specials for you, bands/artists who has never ever played in Sweden or been here for a very long long time …And from what i hear a lot of you love this line up too, and its so great to hear how much the artists are looking forward to this show, these two days are gonna be something else, i am so happy for all of us that are attending, sometimes i think that it would have been so cool to go to this festival myself as a visitor/fan only, but i am happy if i can make you happy, afterall thats why i do this…

Back to work! Love & Peace to all Rock Out (Laws) out there! <3

Los Angeles, Calif,, August 16, 2010: Jack Russell, lead singer of the multi-platinum and Grammy-nominated rock band Great White, is recovering from major surgery after suffering a perforated bowel. The surgery left Russell with a colostomy bag. Doctors are confident that this procedure is temporary. Russell remains hospitalized in Southern California, and his condition is improving. “It was touch and go for about 48 hours whether or not he was going to live,” manager Obi Steinman said. “He’s been in the hospital for several days, and he’s doing a lot better.” Russell is the singer behind such hits as “Once Bitten Twice Shy,” “Rock Me,” “Angel “ and “Save All Your Love”. He faces another operation, but he was in good spirits today “I’ve felt better, but I’ve felt a hell of a lot worse. Nothing is going to keep me down,” Russell said. “This whole thing definitely makes me appreciate life more than I ever have.”

Russell is expected to recover in six to eight weeks. Singer Terry Ilous of XYZ has stepped in to replace Russell at lead vox. Great White continues to receive positive feedback from audiences and promoters from its three shows in Southern California this past weekend.

The remaining dates on Great White’s 25th Anniversary Tour will go on as scheduled, and can be viewed at www.greatwhiterocks.com. The Great White family extends its thanks to the entire Great White fan community and appreciates prayers and well wishes as Russell recovers.

We at Stockholm Rock Out wishes Jack all the best and hope for a speedy recovery, really sad that this has happened but both Stockholm Rock Out and Great White wants to do this the best way possible. Management and Great White have been working hard for the past 24h to do something special at our festival, all our respect and love to Terry Ilous but since he attended the first Rock Out with XYZ on May 1st we felt that something different would be cool, something no one would expect. We are PROUD to announce that at Stockholm Rock Out on September 11, Great White will do a ONE time only european performance with the legendary singer Paul Shortino (Quiet Riot, Rough Cutt and the recently re-united King Kobra) Paul is REALLY excited to do his first EVER show in Sweden on September 11, this night will be something special and its a one time only show. And who knows, they might even throw in a couple of surprises….

Hi again,
Lemme tell you something. I was hanging with Chris and the boys this weekend, rehearsing, producer meeting and a helluva lot of beers and it suddenly hit me like a ton of bricks…Chris is one crazy fucker! See, when we´re working this close together, I never have a chance to take a step back and see what´s really going on but with the help of alcohol I saw it clearly. I mean seriously, who the fuck would ever dare to organize a rock fest in Stockholm that puts focus on rock when it was at it´s best? And the way he does it! Anyone here gone to a festival that is as personal as this one? He takes it all very serious and makes sure that everybody feels at ease. Did you guys who went to any festivales this summer get any offers to meet your idols at well organized Meet & Greets? Sending out free stuff? Remember that Chris is just an average Joe doing what he can with the pay he gets every month…no big money in this part of the business….. You know, there´s a slight difference between Chris LeMon and the BIG promotors. =) They would never dare to do anything like this. David vs. Goliath! No, it´s more safe to book bands who will always sell out. Chickens!

Otherwise, life is good. I am done with the flights, Shuttle logistics, Rooming etc. Now, one could think that the work load would ease off but NO WAY! =)
New cool asignments and challenges. You know we´re only a couple of people working with this. I asked Chris if I could be off working at the VIP Cafeteria and the Meet & Greets when Badmouth plays in oktober with WASP, KIX, Steelheart etc…he said no! The reason being that he wants me back there all the time.
This means that I will not have a chance to enjoy the good life of being a “rock star”. Nosirebob! Mike´s gonna be back there serving Blackie food instead of somebody else doing it. =) Oh fuckin Well!

You who already have tickets, first of all, thank you for supporting Chris crazy idea. Secondly, don´t you have any more friends who wants to rock out with us? I mean every sold ticket this year will result in an even better Rock Out next year…if possible. So, if you are a huge supporter of this type of music, help Chris build a nice economic platform for next year. Tickets sales are great. But we are just worried that some rockers will miss out. FYI…This is the Shit!

By the way…Badmouth will play a lot of new songs during our set on the 16th of October. It´s actually the first gig of our European tour with Lynch Mob starting in November in Sofia, Bulgaria. I am pretty sure that we will not hit our hometown
in a while after that…this after looking at our schedule…it would be cool to meet you guys more than once. =)

Once again, thanks for supporting us and we are really looking forward rocking out with y´all in September.

Cheers n Beers,

Mike Hill

Yesterday me and the the guys from Badmouth had a great evening with beers, laughs and great music, Truly love the guys, couldnt ask for better guys to do Badmouth with…
Had a lot of work to do today but now the time is almost 9pm and simply realize that didnt happen ;) Well, guess all of us need some time off work from time to time, afterall the SRO Office is almost open 24/7…Today its only 25 days left to SRO Part 2, Cant wait! Hey you guys!

Hope you’re having a great weekend so far!
Today I want to tip you off about this rockclub in Stockholm called Rocks, celebrating 9 years today, so if you are in Stockholm and like rocknroll – celebrate with them. It’ll probably be a bitchin party, though proably not as good as Sthlm rockout ;)

We have got a lot of postive response from our former visitors and bands, one exemple is Jay Pepper from Tigertailz who said:

“Stockholm Rock Out is a blast.!! The most bombastic Swedish Rock Festival there is.. Great people, great booze, great place, great Rock. What more could any Metal Head want!”

What do you guys think? What was your best/worse experince of sthlm rock out 1may? Your oppinions are very important to us, after all, it’s for you we make the festival for.

Festivals is associated with the summer in Sweden, but isn’t it crappy to only be allowed to see awesome bands at summertime? I don’t know what you think, but I need music all year around, and now with an indoor rock festival it’s possible!
Hope to see y’all there!
We’ll provide you with good sound, cool artists and good stages. Hopefully you will provide us with your best partymood.

Now I’m of to do a fireshow!

Over and out.

So, yeah, I was sitting here last night working with rooming for the festival, satisfied to have finished working with running orders, buying flights and orgaanzing Meet n Greets.
I opened an e-mail and the first name on that rooming list was Udo Dirkschneider. It suddenly hit me that the whole thing was real. Hell, I mean, UDO playing our little festival?! Fuck yeah! I filled that info in and continued writing down: Jack Russel, Lenny Wolf, Steve Summers, Ron Keel….Holy Fuck! Chris is fuckin nuts I thought to myself. What has he done? Does he know at all what he started?! It just became clear to me that he has done me and alot of others a great favour. All these rockin bands during two days with no worries bout the weather for us all to enjoy.

He asked me what I thought about the idea of an indoor festival in Stockholm with the bands we love in the beginning of the year. I of course said “No fuckin way!” right away. This part of the music business is the toughest most scary of them all. But, as you may have noticed, he didn´t give a flying fuck about what I had to say. I am happy for that now. =)

It strikes me as fairly odd (but also really cool) that more than half of the visitors at the Rock Out are from abroad. I was pretty sure that we had plenty of rockers with great taste in the vincinity…but I guess not. It just proves that the rest of Europe is more rockin than tiny Sweden. =)

I´m in charge of the VIP cafeteria, Meet & Greets, rooming, flights and logistics this time. So, a couple of weeks ago, I used my position for very selfish reasons. Chris was almost done with the line up and I saw my chance. One phone call later Kingdom Come was booked. I saw a lot of shows last year with them, since we were touring with them but I just had a serious craving for some more “Twilight Cruiser, “Get it on” and some of the new stuff. Lenny and the guys are really great people. Looking forward partying with them again.

I just have one huge problem… Time is not moving fast enough but at the same time I want to have plenty of time to organize this fucker. But one thing is for sure. The 10th and the 11th will be epic. I want to take this opourtunity to thank everyone around me and all the people who have bought tickets. Looking forward meeting y´all soon.

Oh, BTW, I´m Mike Hill from Badmouth. So, now you know. =)

Cheers,

Mike Hill

Stockholm Rock Out is proud to announce that Reckless Love finally will make it to Sweden and Stockholm, this is one of the most requested bands to this years Rock Out festivals. The Show on October 16 will be the bands only show in Sweden during 2010, So make sure you dont miss this 1 day Rock fest with W.A.S.P., KIX, Steelheart, Reckless Love, Badmouth and more!

Kuopio, Finland isn’t exactly Hicksville, Indiana and Helsinki sure ain’t no West Hollywood but with Reckless Love the analogies are obvious. This bunch of rockers dropped out of school, moved to Helsinki and chose to scrape by whatever menial jobs available to chase their rock n’ roll dreams. Having scored a recording deal with a major label, Universal Music, as the 2nd glam rock band during the last decade or so, Reckless Love show that, if nothing else, the guys master whatever lessons they’ve ever taken in the subject of hard rock.

Reckless Love’s debut album features a plethora of influences audible to the listener, and as knowledgeable as the band seems to be of its musical roots, it’s their own take on hard rock that makes the album so extremely exciting. Sure, hard life can teach you stuff, but in Reckless Love’s case it has taught them to teach people stuff. The lesson here is: there’s not a whole lot crap that cant’ be healed with a good song and a smile. And because the songs are so good, smile you will – after you get a load of this. Reckless Love extends sonic hails to the greats of hard rock ranging from Kiss to Van Halen to W.A.S.P. to Warrant to Poison to Guns N’ Roses and everything in between, with a heartwarming, sunny disposition able to melt the gloomiest of cynics.

While maybe dropouts in regular school, there’s not a page in the book of hard rock these guys haven’t taken to heart. In the hair metal school tables turn and Reckless Love are the teachers. And the class will only be dismissed once thoroughly entertained.
